MedImmune, Inc. v. Genentech, Inc., et al.

On January 9, 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed a federal court ruling from 2005, whereby it originally was decided that a corporation could not dispute/challenge a patent during the time in which it held possession of a license for the product/innovation protected by the patent. As a result of the Supreme Court's ruling, lower U.S. courts now will be charged with making further decisions with respect to the substantive claims initially deemed invalid by the federal court system.
